Overview

Scouts will need to provide an official uniform. Our pack requires shirt and belt. Scouts may choose to optionally purchase pants, hat, and socks. Dues will cover the rank/den neckerchief and slide or color ribbons. The council can provide financial assistance for the uniform top; see our Costs page for more information or our Forms page for links to the assistance form.

The pack dues will also cover a separate activity uniform (pack t-shirt). 

Note that starting in 2024-25, den handbooks will not be provided. Most materials are available online, but handbooks will be available for purchase at our local scout shop for those interested in a physical book. You can find links to online handbooks here.

The table below summarizes uniforms and supplies to purchase or that are provided, but details are the following sections.

Uniforms

Lions

Lions are only required to purchase and wear the official Lion T-shirt and belt. Lions only wear the uniform T-shirt for one year, so no need to size up to make it last multiple years. 

The pack will provide neckerchief and slide. Hats and other items are optional. Wearing the award belt will require belted pants, shorts, or similar  - official blue BSA pants are not required.

Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos

Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos should purchase the blue official uniform shirt and belt. The uniform will require three additional patches listed below to be purchased (see patch guide for placement). It’s generally recommended to size the uniform a little big so it can be worn for multiple years if starting off in Tigers.

The pack will provide neckerchief and slide, plus color ribbon for Webelos. Hats and other items are optional. Wearing the award belt will require belted pants, shorts, or similar - official blue BSA pants are not required.

Arrow of Lights

Arrow of Lights should purchase the tan official uniform shirt -- they may continue wearing the blue uniform if they still would like to. The uniform will require three additional patches listed below to be purchased (see patch guide for placement) plus blue shoulder loops. The switch to a tan shirt is so that it can go with them in sixth grade to Scouts BSA, so it’s generally recommended to size the uniform a little big so it can be worn for multiple years.

The pack will provide color ribbon for holding adventure pins for new Arrow of Light scouts. Hats and other items are optional. Wearing belted pants, shorts, or similar is recommended - official BSA green pants are not required

Scout merchandise can be purchased from the Occoneechee Scout Shop on Atlantic Ave in Raleigh.

When to Wear Your Uniform?

Scouts should wear their uniform to each den or pack meeting when possible, unless otherwise instructed. Scouts should also wear their uniform during popcorn fundraising events. Uniforms are usually not required at other outings and camping trips, instead the pack t-shirt is worn.

Note that awards are worn on the belts for Lions through Bears, but Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts wear awards on a pin holder called Webelos Colors (see patch guide above).
